Radiological Risk Assessment for Karstic Springs Used as Drinking Water in Rural Romania

نویسندگان

چکیده

Seasonal variations of the radon and radium activity concentrations in karstic water sources originating formations were investigated as part a premiere systematic survey conducted Romania. A database including total 228 drinking samples collected from 30 distinct adjacent to rural communities was compiled. The for all seasons, assessed based on solid scintillation, ranged 2.1 19.7 Bq/L 0.6 3.0 Bq/L, respectively. Overall, detected contents did not exceed radioprotection standards recommended by national European legislation. However, at least one season, measured values 31% exceeded 11.1 maximum contaminant level Environmental Protection Agency United States. associated radiological risk, reported terms annual effective dose, calculated be between 9.8 × 10?6 6.0 10?5 mSv/y 5.9 2.7 10?4 radium, which are considerably below WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines value 0.1 mSv/y.

Evaluating Monitoring Strategies to Detect Precipitation-Induced Microbial Contamination Events in Karstic Springs Used for Drinking Water

Monitoring of microbial drinking water quality is a key component for ensuring safety and understanding risk, but conventional monitoring strategies are typically based on low sampling frequencies (e.g., quarterly or monthly). This is of concern because many drinking water sources, such as karstic springs are often subject to changes in bacterial concentrations on much shorter time scales (e.g....

Lifetime risk assessment of Radium-226 in drinking water samples

Background: One of the most significant radionuclides in natural drinking waters is 226Ra and its decay products. It is potential of health problems, including cancer risk. In this study, the effect of 226Ra concentration in 28 drinking water samples collected from the North Guilan province was investigated. Materials and Methods: The activity concentrations of 226Ra were measured by using of r...

Introduction to Drinking Water Risk Assessment

The need for a clean and safe drinking water supply for centers of population has been recognized for over 2000 years. The early Romans recognized that human activities and effluent were a major source of water pollution, and that providing water from relatively unpopulated areas was a solution to the problem. In 312 b.c. the Romans under Appius Claudius began development of an aqueduct system ...
